The Lakeside Retreat Residence is a stunning 23,500 square foot custom residence spread across three levels. This impressive home boasts roofs curved in two directions, an infinity edge pool, cantilevered balconies, curved light gauge walls, heavy timber framing, steel floor framing, and custom steel beams that create expansive openings. The project was filled with design challenges, resulting in an immaculate architectural masterpiece.

For the floor system, HSG utilized JoistRite, a proprietary joist product specializing in lightweight beam systems that offer high stiffness, long spans, and shallow members. The punched webs in these members allowed for seamless coordination between Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical disciplines, facilitating the installation of ducts, pipes, and other essential fixtures.

One of the standout features is the 30’-0” long, curved Nanawall door opening to the exterior patio. Two levels of rolled, built-up, steel members were custom fabricated to support the roof above this expansive opening and maintain tight deflection tolerances. The roof structure itself consists of curved, 50’ heavy timber trusses that each support 22,000 lbs of roof load. These trusses were custom designed with steel plates to integrate with the structural steel moment frames that provide lateral stability throughout the structure.
