coleman pavilion monopteron

This decorative structure was constructed adjacent to a small pond in the center of the Johnson University’s Campus. The decorative monopteron was formed and chiseled out of marble from China and imported to Knoxville in pieces. HSG provided a designed and detailed the structural foundations and the necessary connections between the pieces of marble, the concrete, and the dome above. The dome structure was built out of arched light gauge steel and plywood decking. The dome was then covered in 100% pure copper.
