WHO OR WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO ENGINEERING?
I grew up in and around the construction industry through my father’s electrical contracting firm, Haines Electric Company. I always loved being on jobsites and seeing buildings come out of the ground. Although I didn’t choose the path of an electrical contractor, I believe that the ability to see structures come to life inspired me to want to want to know how they worked and how to design them. Being able to use math and science to design things on paper that turn into reality is a huge part what inspired me to be a structural engineer.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE IN KNOXVILLE? WHY? 
Sequoyah Hills and Sequoyah Hills park. This neighborhood was the first place we visited during my first college visit to Knoxville in 1998. It was one of the first parks I took my future wife to when she visited Knoxville, and it continues to be one of my favorite places to take my children. I have always been blown away by the beauty of the neighborhood and the park running along the river. Over the years, I have run countless miles through the park and have spent countless hours enjoying the river, the fields, and the greenways connected to it.

Favorite Book: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown Favorite Movies: Shawshank Redemption and Inception

IF YOU COULD HAVE LUNCH WITH ANY ONE PERSON, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Dabo Swinney, Head Coach of Clemson University. I would love to pick his brain on leadership, coaching, and how he has so successfully implemented his Christian faith into his football program. He has developed such a culture of excellence and honor and he has done so by putting God and family first. He is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and seems to be making an eternal impact by being a good steward of the blessings God has given him.
