Intern
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time Entry Level position for professional work. Performs assignments designed to develop professional engineering practice knowledge and their abilities in the office and field. Requires the application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Limited judgement exercised on details of work.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Working towards BSCE/BSAE – OR – MSCE/MSAE degree from an ABET accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Possesses basic computer skills learned in college, such as spreadsheets and programming logic.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Exposed to working with Revit Structure.
  • Plans to pursue Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering (MSCE/MSAE)
  • Has previous engineering and/or construction experience.
  • Possesses interest and shows self-motivation in learning structural engineering.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Structural Designer
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Progressing entry-level position. Responsible for setting up projects and details using company Revit/BIM Standards. Works under the close supervision of the Senior Structural Designers, Engineering Interns and Structural Engineers. Translates mark-ups onto drawings, sets up title blocks and drawing sheets. Updates contract drawings as revisions are received. Produces 100% construction documents in REVIT BIM software based on electronic mark-ups provided by engineers using Bluebeam and hand sketches.  Some judgement exercised on details of work. Supports the work of the engineers and designers. Eventually develops skills to make decisions on the appropriate modeling and details to be used on various projects. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • An Associates degree in a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • 1 -3 years of BIM experience in a related field.

  • Back-checks work to ensure compliance with direction given.
  • Can analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine the best approach for the completion of drawings.
  • Understands and follows the company’s standard BIM procedures for modeling and drafting and uses standard drawing and modeling procedures.
  • Coordinates details and dimensions between drawing sheets.
  • Uses Revit to prepare BIM models and associated details and plan-work as part of the Contract Documents.
  • Provides quality-control checks of one’s own work.
  • Calculates and checks dimensions.

Engineering Intern I
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Entry Level position for professional work. Performs assignments designed to develop professional engineering knowledge and technical abilities. Requires the application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Limited judgement exercised on details of work. Assigns tasks to and coordinates with Interns and Structural Designers. Performs construction administration tasks such as shop drawing review, construction consultation, and construction site visits.  Has some interaction with clients and contractors.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • BSCE/BSAE – OR – MSCE/MSAE degree from an ABET accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Certified Engineer-in-Training (has passed the FE Exam)
  • Possesses basic computer skills learned in college, such as spreadsheets and programming logic.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Has Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering (MSCE/MSAE) or is currently pursuing.
  • GPA in undergraduate and graduate level programs 3.0 or higher.
  • Exposed to working with RISA 3D or similar structural modeling software.
  • Exposed to working with Revit.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Adobe, and other electronic editing software.

Engineering Intern II
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Progressing entry-level position beyond the Engineer Intern I position. Performs assignments designed to develop professional engineering knowledge technical abilities. Requires the application of traditional and some non-traditional engineering techniques and procedures. Produces work using engineering software and models in Revit to develop the project construction documents. Judgement exercised on details working with the Structural Engineer closely. Assigns tasks and leads Engineer Interns (Level 1), Senior Structural Designer and Structural Designer. Works with clients and contractors. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • BSCE/BSAE + (3) years of acceptable structural engineering experience after graduation   – OR – MSCE/MSAE   + (2) years of acceptable structural engineering experience in building design after graduation.
  • Proficient in various structural analysis software.
  • Proficient in REVIT structural BIM software
  • Demonstrates to President and Structural Engineers the ability to accurately complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and instills confidence in their communication and technical abilities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Has Master’s Degree in Engineering (MSCE/MSAE)
  • GPA in undergraduate and graduate level programs 3.0 or higher.
  • Has 2 – 4 years of previous engineering experience.

Project Manager
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for conducting engineering work requiring good judgement in evaluation, selection, and implementation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Designs projects with minimal daily supervision and continually develops project management skills to represent Haines Structural Group in project meetings. Developing communication skills required to manage the flow of information on projects and work efficiently as a consultant. Provides quality control by checking calculations and documents. Meets project deadlines and design budgets under the direction of the President, or Senior Structural Engineering leadership.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • BSCE/BSAE + (5-10) years of acceptable structural engineering experience in building design after graduation   
  • MSCE/MSAE + (4-10) years of acceptable structural engineering experience in building design after graduation.
  • Proficient in various structural analysis software.
  • Proficient in REVIT structural BIM software
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and instills confidence in their communication and technical abilities.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the state of their home office or a state with the same or more restrictive requirements.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • GPA in undergraduate and graduate level programs 3.0 or higher.
  • Instills confidence in Supervisors and Clients in communication and technical skills.
